Morchard Bishop has Broadband

Morchard Bishop's telephone exchange is enabled for Broadband Internet. What this means for Internet users (or people who would like to be Internet users), is that we can now get access to the Internet at much faster speeds (typically 10 times faster) than we could before. And more importantly, because of the way broadband works, there are no additional call charges and your telephone will work at the same time. For medium to heavy users, this usually means that it costs less than it did before - for a far better experience.

How do I get Broadband?
The choice of broadband suppliers is enormous, with all sorts of different packages to suit different people. To help you, the original Broadband campaign website is still available and includes a selection of useful links. Things to bear in mind are:

  • the monthly cost - varies from aroundn £15 to £30 per month for most suppliers
  • additional costs - some suppliers include the supply of an ADSL modem (required) at no extra cost, others don't. Some charge an additional one-off set-up fee.
  • minimum length of contract – this varies from 1 month to 12 months depending on the supplier and the package.
  • the speed - broadband speeds vary. 512K is typical and is about 8 times faster than a normal 56K dial-up modem. Some of the cheaper offerings are 256K (half the speed), but will be adequate for most Internet use. Speeds on 1Mb and even 2Mb (depending on your line quality) are available at higher costs – these are usually intended for high volume business users.
  • customer service - difficult one to advise on. Whilst there is some comfort in known brand names, even these can be frustrating at times.

Please remember this is new to most, if not all, of us. If you have good, or bad, experiences, please let us know by Emailing from this link so that we can share your experiences with others.
