What's Broadband?

Broadband is a fairly general term for a new type of faster Internet connection. At the moment, you probably use a modem to connect to the Internet, and you probably pay a local call rate for every minute that you are connected. Your monthly bill will depend on how many times you use the Internet, and how long you stay connected.

With Broadband, the Internet is permanently connected for a fixed price (between £15 and £30 per month depending on suppliers). What's more, the connection is about ten times faster than a normal dial-up connection. So if it takes a page 1 minute to load at the moment, it would take a few seconds with Broadband.
